The title goes to RMCS B team!

The Panther 7th grade baseball team won their conference tournament this weekend beating Wilmington 10-0 in the first round and Channahon 11-1 in the championship.
In the first game Jagger Garcia pitched all 5 innings for a shutout. Chase Isaac led the way on offense with 2 hits and 3 RBIs and Trent Boudreau had 1 hit and 2 RBI’s.
In the championship game Matt Kuban was on the mound and allowed only two hits and one run over five innings, while striking out nine.

Headrick sharpens his stuff, picks up first two wins at Double-A

Former Reed-Custer baseball state champion Brent Headrick has been a lot better over the past three weeks for the Witchita Wind Surge, Double-A affiliate to the Minnesota Twins.
After two dreadful starts to begin his Double-A stint, Headrick turned it on. On July 30th, he went four innings of hitless ball giving up an unearned run while fanning three and walking three.

Jr. Comets play Manteno well, were close to wins at JV and Varsity levels

The Jr. Comets played some inspiring football against Manteno as they lost all four levels but most games weren’t decided until the final quarter.
The Superlights began against a tough Manteno Superlights team and made some stuff happen but weren’t able to come out victorious.
The Jr. Comets were led by Jase Reynolds, who received great blocks from linemen Gunner Bolatto and Jackson Dienes, and was off as he scored their lone touchdown of the game.

Comets in pursuit of a state championship, won’t accept less

by shawn long Sports writer The football Comets are in pursuit of a Class 3A state championship. Last year, they got an appetizer getting to the postseason. This year, they want the whole steak dinner that is a state title. The Comets, who finished 10-2, had the best overall season any Comet team has ever had as they made it to the quarterfinals before falling in the last 19 seconds of the game to Byron. They’ve got the pieces for a state championship this year and if they do see that same Byron team or any other team, they’ll be ready.

Comet golfers striving to get Wilkins to state

The Comet golf team tees off on Tuesday. They’ll hope to build on a season that saw Makayla Wilkins make it to the girls sectional.
They will begin the season with Peotone on Tuesday before heading to Lisle on Thursday.
They’ll travel to Minne Monesse Golf Course to battle Grant Park and Wilmington (8/29) before heading to High Point Golf Course on Sept. 1 to face Wilmington again.

Jr. Comets to open season Sunday

Cheerleaders and players on the Jr. Comets will be suiting up Sunday for the home opener against Manteno.
Coaches of the youth football teams are just as fired up to get the eight-game season started.
With the recent success at the high school level, where the varsity team advanced to the quarterfinals with a 10-2 record, the best record in school history, player numbers at the Superlight, Lightweight and JV levels have held up. The Jr. Comets could use more players at the Dyno and Varsity levels.

Best Friday night pork sandwich contest is back

Be sure to go hungry to high school football games this fall because the Pork & Pigskins Championship is back.
The Illinois High School Association and the Illinois Pork Producers Association are partnering together to again award the best pork sandwiches served at football games.

Illinois athletes who set the standard in fall sports

They are the best of the best when it comes to high school sports in Illinois. They’re the athletes who have had the most impact when it comes to playting fall sports.
Among the top football players in class 2A, was monster Jacardia Wright. Wright had tree trunk legs and he displayed it on the field at Decatur St. Teresa when he rushed for over 8,000 yards in his four seasons as a Bulldog. He also scored 150 touchdowns.

Comet camp gets kids excited about baseball

Campers filed into Reed-Custer’s youth baseball camp on Thursday ready to learn the game.
The Comets welcomed over 20 kids but baseball coach Jake Evans says there will be quite a few more seventh and eighth graders who show up next week during the tryouts.
