Anthony Manietta

COAL CITY—Anthony Joseph “AJ” Manietta, 88 of Coal City, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joilet with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 18, 1934, the son of Rose (Persak) and Anton Manietta.
AJ was a lifelong resident of Coal City, graduating from Coal City High School with the class of 1952. On Feb. 14, 1953, he married Suzanne Waldorf. He loved fishing, golf and gardening. He enjoyed following his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to all their sporting events. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Coal City Area Club and Hole in One Club at the Dwight Country Club where he was a member. He was the family’s “mister fix it.” If it was broke, call dad. He was a member of Carpenters Local 916 and was a diehard Cubs fan which included watching them take the championship in 2016.
He is survived by four children: Susan (Doug) Wills, Linda (Jack) Naiden, Anthony (Lori) Manietta and Kim (Greg) Hodgen; 10 grandchildren: Tracy (Chris) Carlson, Allan (Jill) Wills, Nikki (TJ) Peters, Lindsey (Andrew) Steenson, Brian (Arica) Naiden, Brittni (Jim) Kollker, Molly Manietta, Scott (Meghan ) Hodgen, Jeffrey (Melissa) Hodgen and Ashley (Kyle) Lardi; 23 great-grandchildren: Brendon, Drew, Evan, Derek, Alex, Maggie, Jackson, Alice, Daphne, Isabelle, Audrey, Maya, Cora, Hailey, Bryce, Tyler, Teagan, Addison, Averie, Harper, Scout, Cooper and Ruger; a sister, Rosann Manietta; three sisters-in-law: Betty Manietta, Mary Manietta and Anne Manietta.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Manietta; three brothers: Raymond, Carl and John Manietta; a sister, Joann Klover; a sister-in-law, Lois Manietta and a brother-in-law Richard Klover and a special aunt and godmother, Marcella Schultz.
Pallbearers are Allan Wills, Scott Hodgen, Jeffrey Hodgen, Brian Naiden, Troy Manietta and Ronnie Manietta.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 27 from 4-8 p.m. at Ferrari Funeral Services, 1044 Ferrari Dr., in Coal City.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the Assumption Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Father Josh Miller will officiate with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood. A luncheon provided by the Martha’s will follow at the Berst Center Hall.
