Betty Hatfield

WILMINGTON—Betty Hatfield, 68, of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
Born March 7, 1952 in Butler County, OH, Betty Renee was a daughter of Harold and Hazel (Metcalf) Riggs. She devoted her life to being a caregiver of children and babysitting out of her home for over 35 years. Betty was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Goose Lake and the South Wilmington Fireman’s Club. She enjoyed getting together with friends and playing Bunco. Betty’s happy place was her vacation home in Wisconsin where she loved to go boating with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Hatfield, who she married on Sept. 19, 1992 in Wilmington; two sons, John Lundberg, of Gardner and Jeff Lundberg, of Wilmington; two grandchildren, John (Sadie) Lundberg III and Codi Lundberg, both of Wilmington; one great-grandson, Gannon Lundberg; five brothers and three sisters: Jimmy (Joyce) Riggs, Jerry (Barb) Riggs, Donny (Penny) Riggs, Louis Riggs, Denny Riggs, Herri (Gene) Bergman, Charlene DeBoard, and Joyce (the late Bobby) Beckham; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Danny Shafer and Gerry (the late Bill) Lohnes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Barbara Shafer and her brother, Buddy Riggs.
The family received friends for a visitation on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd., in Wilmington.
A private funeral service followed the visitation, and Betty was laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Betty's name to Bruning Elementary School, 1910 Bruning Drive, Wilmington, IL 60481.
