CCHS nominated for musical theater awards

     Coal City High School’s production of “Les Miserables,” is in the running for two Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards presented by Broadway in Chicago.
    In a video announcement presented by “Hamilton” Chicago cast members Gabriella Sorrentino and José Rosario, Jr., the nominees for this year’s awards were presented including Jack Micetich, Coal City Musical Theatre Department’s director who has been nominated for Best Direction.
    Micetich is one of five nominees that includes the directors from Hinsdale South High School, Libertyville High School, Oak Park-River Forest High School and York Community High School in Elmhurst.
    “I am extremely grateful and honored to be amongst these five deserving individuals, but I also have to give credit when credit is due,” Micetich said, pointing out the work of his student actors and creative team.
    “This nomination may list my name but we are a team, and this nomination is a reflection and victory of our entire program,” Micetich said.
    Coal City’s Musical Theatre Department is also one of five nominees in the category of Best Scenic Design. The award is sponsored by SPL  This is the fifth year the award will be presented. Coal City won the award in 2014 and 2016.
    The scenic design of the show was designed and created by Celeste Sheridan with assistance from Micetich, the cast and students enrolled in the theatre tech course.
    The other scenic design nominees include Crystal Lake South for its production of “Peter Pan,” Hinsdale South’s “Legally Blonde,” Lincon-Way High School’s “Hunchback of Notre Dame,” and “In the Heights,” presented a Prairie Ridge High School.
    The awards will be presented Monday, June 4 during a ceremony at the Broadway Playhouse located in Chicago’s Water Tower Place.
    “Based on the audience reactions and witnessing the students’ emotional final bow, we’ve already won,” Micetich said.
