The Coal City Fire Protection District proudly announces the groundbreaking of a major addition and remodel project at Fire Station 1, marking a significant milestone in the District’s commitment to enhancing emergency services for the community.
The project, which officially broke ground this week, will modernize and expand the existing facility to better serve the growing needs of Coal City and surrounding areas.
The construction, led by Narvick Brothers of Morris, in collaboration with Studio GC, a Chicago-based architectural firm specializing in public sector design, will modernize and expand the existing station to meet the evolving needs of the District.
“This project represents a major investment in the safety and well-being of our residents,” said Jim Seerup, Fire Chief of the Coal City Fire Protection District. “The upgraded station will provide our firefighters with the space, tools, and technology they need to respond more effectively and efficiently.”
The remodel and addition will include updating the building to meet current standards and codes including areas such as, living quarters, expanded apparatus bays, improved training facilities, and enhanced energy efficiency features. These improvements are designed to support the District’s mission of delivering high-quality fire protection and emergency medical services.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2027, with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
