Coal City Food pantry needs your help in filling its shelves

A wooden cabinet sits outside the Coal City Food Pantry, and organization members are hoping the community will help them fill it in the coming month.

The cabinet, was a gift to the organization, and in the final weeks of August and throughout the month of September the volunteer group would like to see it filled with items including pancake mix, strawberry jelly, peanut butter, tissues and canned pastas like Spaghetti O’s.

All donations are used for food assistance to local residents who have access to perishable and non-perishable foods, and other necessities when available.

The Coal City Food Pantry has provided assistance for more than 35 years.

Housed at Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 E. McArdle Rd., the pantry is open twice a week—Monday from 9-11 a.m. and Thursday from 1-3 p.m.—for residents to receive services.

Donations to the food pantry can be dropped off during its weekly distribution days or placed in the wooden cabinet located outside the south entrance doors at any time. When making a product donation, the pantry asks that items have current expiration dates.

Monetary donations for the Coal City Food Pantry are accepted year round and can be sent to 6805 E. McArdle Rd., Coal City.
