Coaler graduates recognized as AP Scholars

Three graduates from the Coal City High School class of 2017 have been recognized as AP Scholars with Honors.
Recognition is given to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all advanced placement (AP) exams, and score three or higher on four or more of these exams. Students scoring a three or higher on their tests are guaranteed college credit in the state of Illinois.
The AP Program offers college-level curriculum and exams to high school students. With the addition of two new courses this past year, Coal City currently offers its students five AP level courses — English literature and composition, Spanish language and culture, United States history, world history and calculus.
The high school administration has announced that Hunter Reeves, Luke Rogers and Logan Schoen have earned the award.
Over 80 AP tests were recorded by Coal City students and 74 percent achieved a three or higher and 35 percent earned a four of higher.  Two students achieved a five in calculus and history U.S. and world, and one student achieved a five in Spanish
Reeves, the son of Nanette Gladback and Richard and Candy Reeves, will attend the University of Florida where he will study physics.
Rogers, the son of Amy and Steve Rogers, will attend Central Michigan University to study mechanical engineering. He is enrolled in the school’s honors program which earned him a full tuition scholarship.
Schoen, the son of Todd and Laura Schoen, will attend the University of Wisconsin to study business.
