Driver rescued from vehicle that rolled into river
On Sunday, March 24 at approximately 11:16 p.m. the Wilmington Fire Protection District responded to a call for help from a female driver trapped in a vehicle that had rolled into the water.
The initial address given to Wilmington fire companies responding was in the area of Cottage Road in unincorporated Will County.
The Grundy County Dispatch Center had initially received a 911 cellular call from the trapped occupant and dispatched the Coal City Fire District and Grundy County Sheriff’s Dept. The Grundy County units searched their jurisdiction where the vehicle was thought to be but came up empty-handed.
As the Grundy County 911 Dispatch Center continued to communicate with the caller, the vehicle and occupant location were accurately determined by WESCOM 911 Communications Center through the use of several technology platforms that can pinpoint a 911 caller’s location.
Responding Sheriff deputies from Grundy and Will counties, along with Wilmington Fire District personnel, were redirected to the area of the Des Plaines River Conservation Area boat launch off of North River Rd.
Using information relayed by WESCOM 911 Communications Center, responding WFPD personnel were able to find the vehicle which had driven off of a gravel access road and rolled over into the Kankakee River.
WFPD personnel made contact with the trapped adult female and removed her from the overturned vehicle. The occupant was evaluated by Wilmington Fire EMS personnel and refused further treatment or transport to the hospital.
