Elsie Swartz

COAL CITY—Elsie Agnes Swartz,97, of Coal City passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 7, 2017 at Heritage Health in Dwight.
Born April 3, 1920 in Coal City, Illinois, Elsie was a daughter of Joseph and Bessie (nee Hajek) Swartz. She was raised and educated in Coal City, and during World War II was proud to have joined the workforce, as a ‘Rosie the Riveter’. Following wartime, Elsie gained employment in the garment factories and later went on to retire from DeMert and Dougherty after 15 years of service.
Elsie was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, and belonged to the Legion of Mary. She enjoyed participating with the Coal City Seniors; took pleasure in playing bingo and reading, and will be remembered for the countless Christmas ornaments she crafted. Elsie cherished being with family and friends.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Ed “Tim” (Lynn) Swartz of Coal City, Steven (Lynnese) Swartz of Morris, Kathleen Lestina of Diamond, Mike (Jennifer) Swartz of Florida, Jean (Joe) Macaluso, Mary (Pete) Strahan and Luann (Richard) McKinney all of Coal City and Elizabeth (Earl) Baldree of Florida.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Bessie Lestina; three brothers: Joseph R. Swartz, Frank J. Swartz and Edward Swartz, and two nephews: Todd Swartz and Joseph Lestina.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service 11 a.m. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 215 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating.
Burial will be in Bohemian National Cemetery in Braidwood, where Elsie will be laid to rest with her parents.
