Railroad crossings to be closed for repairs

The Illinois Department of Transportation [IDOT] reports Route 113 [Division Street] will be closed for repairs at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe crossing [BNSF]in Coal City starting Monday, July 11. The closure will be for approximately two days. Signs announcing the closure have been posted, and a detour route has been established that will direct eastbound traffic to use Broadway, North Street and First Avenue with westbound traffic utilizing the same roadways in the opposite direction. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, the use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment. IDOT has also announced the BNSF crossing on Route 47 in Mason will be closed beginning Thursday, July 14 for repairs lasting approximately two days. A posted detour will direct motorists to use Route 113 and Interstate 55.
