Roger E. Flint

COAL CITY—Roger E. Flint, 75, of Coal City, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet. Born March 19, 1948 in Joliet, he was the son of Elden and Laura (nee Williamson) Flint. Roger graduated from Reed-Custer High School with the class of 1966. Soon after graduation he was drafted into the United States Army, proudly serving our country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the John Martin Steele VFW Post #6049 in Morris. He retired in 2013 from McCluckie Oil in Coal City after over 30 years of employment. He always kept himself busy tinkering around with tools and metal fabricating. After retirement he enjoyed working alongside his son, Roger at United Welding Fabrication in Wilmington. He had a passion for cooking, always trying to create a new dish. Roger was well loved from his family and community and will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Anita (nee Vanzaghi) Flint, of Coal City; one son, Roger Flint, of Coal City; two daughters, Shannon (Tom Degnan) Flint, of Hobart, IN and Stephanie (Terry) Gill, of Coal City; four grandchildren: Hannah Flint, Amanda Gill, Miranda Frost and Matthew Ryan (Josie) Gill; two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Payton Gill; two sisters, Ann (the late Charlie) DuBois, of Braidwood and Shirley (Richard) Harris, of Braidwood; two brothers, Calvin (Chris) Flint, of Braidwood and Marlin (Eloise) Flint, of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Gina (nee Vanzaghi) Hase, of Orange County, FL and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Elden and Laura and four brothers: Elmer, Paul, Ron and Gordon Flint.
The family would like to thank the VA Hospitals, Riverside Cancer Center in Bourbonnais and Morris Hospital ICU for their exceptional and compassionate care.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial visitation for Roger will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory, Braidwood Chapel, Friday, June 9, 2023 from 9 a.m. until the time of memorial services at 12 p.m.
Family and friends are welcome to gather in the funeral home parking lot, Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. to go in procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood for committal services at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hines VA: 5000 S. Fifth Ave., Hines, IL 60141-3030 would be appreciated.
