11/28/2009 12:50:00 AM It's beginning to look like Christmas
Santa Claus and his elves at the North Pole are busy preparing for Christmas, but the jolly old elf himself will make a pre-Christmas visit to the village of Coal City this weekend.
Santa is scheduled to arrive in the village around 3 p.m. Escorted by the Coal City Fire Protection District, Santa will make his way to Campbell Memorial Park and a short time later he will flip the switch to turn on the village holiday tree and decorations that have been installed this week by the village's maintenance crew.
Upon Santa's arrival to Campbell Memorial Park, he will settle down under the Gerald Pierard Gazebo to meet with area youngsters. Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles are invited to take pictures of their special child with Santa. The GFWC-IL Coal City Junior Woman's Club will no longer be taking photographs.
The Junior Woman's Club is once again co-sponsoring this year's holiday lighting with the village of Coal City.
As in the past, the club will sponsor a craft for kids, holiday cards will be available for families to sign for deployed soldiers in the United States military and refreshments will be handed out at the Coal City Village Hall to all who attend.
The annual lighting and visit from Santa will conclude at 5:30 p.m. or once all youngsters have had an opportunity to visit with Santa who will depart the park on a fire truck enroute back to the North Pole.
Club members and village officials encourage local residents to begin the holiday season by joining them in the park for the festivities. Because a portion of the events will be held outdoors, attendees should dress accordingly.
