Coal City soccer caps historic season with a state trophy

The Coalers achieved a milestone in program history Friday, capturing third place during the 2025 IHSA Class 1A Boys Soccer State Finals.
After a tough semifinal loss to Mendota on Thursday night, they bounced back with a dominant 6-1 victory over the Chicago Academy Cougars on Friday at Hoffman Estates High School.
Coal City finishes with a 24-4 record. Their defensive performance stood out: entering the third-place game, they had allowed only 14 goals in 28 games (about 0.5 goals per game).

Coalers to get first-ever shot at state trophy

Coal City’s soccer team will play for Class 1A state trophy starting Thursday after winning the Maroa Super Sectional on Monday.
The Coalers edged Williamsville, 1-0, Monday to advance to the Final Four, improving their record to 23-3 overall.
Senior Adrian Dames scored the game-deciding goal for the Coalers in the second half off an assist from senior captain Julian Micetich. The winning goal propelled the Coalers to the farthest they’ve ever gone in a playoff in school history.

Coaler soccer team to play for regional championship

The Coal City soccer team will play for the regional championship on Tuesday at home after defeating Herscher 5-1 in the opening round on Saturday.
Dane Noffsinger scored three goals to lead the Coalers who now faces Manteno on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Panthers edged Peotone Saturday 1-0.
