Next weekly job fair to be May 10 at Workforce Center

JOLIET – Area job seekers are invited to attend a weekly job fair hosted by the Workforce Services Division of Will County and the Illinois Department of Employment Security from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the Workforce Center of Will County.
 

Woman arrested for filling fraudulent prescription

    Doc’s Drugs of Wilmington contacted the police early Monday afternoon, May 1, to report that someone was trying to pick up a fraudulent prescription.
    While en route, the officers were advised that the offender had left the store in a blue Nissan. They spotted a vehicle in a parking lot on Water Street that matched the vehicle’s description and stopped to investigate.

Habitat for Humanity to break ground in Coal City

Grundy—Three Rivers Habitat for Humanity will break ground this week for its next home, its first to be located in Coal City.
    On Thursday, May 4, the non-profit organization will join Glen and Beth Hill, and their two children in turning over the first spades of dirt on the property where the family’s new home will be built at 655 E. Fourth St. The ground breaking is slated for 5:30 p.m.

Storage next phase in stadium renovations

The press box has been removed and the outdoor concession stand demolished in preparation for a summer stadium renovation project at Coal City High School.
    Dzuris Athletic Stadium is getting new spectator seating, as well as a concession stand and restrooms. The project also includes a storage facility for the school’s athletic and fine arts departments.

Coal City takes steps to demolish abandoned North Street home

A small house that fronts the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad track as it rounds the Pequot Curve has been tagged for enforcement action by the village of Coal City.
    If the owners fail to step up to complete required repairs to the decades old home, the village will ultimately have the structure  at 1225 E. North St. demolished.
    Town officials say the house has been passed through multiple owners over the past few years and as a result fell into grave disrepair.

School custodians ink new contract

    Custodians for the Unit 1 School District have signed on to a new five-year contract.
    The Unit 1 Board of Education and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 73 have agreed to a long-term collective bargaining agreement that, among other things, addresses vacation and personal leave, extends the probationary period for new employees and sets a formula for annual salary adjustments.

Council says no to annual rate increase

For the second year in a row, Braidwood residents will get a break when it comes to water and sewer increases.

But as far as some city officials are concerned, it’s not all good news.

On April 25, members of the Braidwood City Council split 3-2 on a vote regarding bills, narrowly approving a measure to halt water and sewer rate increases this year.

Teen artists on display at Fossil Ridge

The auditorium at the Fossil Ridge Public Library was drenched in local talent over the weekend, as the library hosted the annual Teen Art Show.

A total of 73 local youth provided 252 entries to the contest, in categories from painting to photography to sculpture.

The library hosts the show every spring to showcase local artistic talent.
